Here are some designs from Higher Earth #5 (on sale now!)  This is Crystal, who is one of the two spotlighted characters in this issue.  I got lots of good description on her from Sam, as well as lots of reference (writers: this ALWAYS helps in the design stage!).  He wanted her to have a classic/flapper kind of bob hairdo (I seem to draw lots of girls with bangs) and for her outfit to be kind of otherworldly.  I kept this all in mind and a bit of Rachel Summers (Phoenix from X-men & Excalibur) in mind for her look. (Sam and I are both big fans of the same ’80s era X-books, apparently!) Sam and the editor ended up picking design #1.  She was a lot of fun to draw!
